Since my family's return to the U.K. in 2004, after living eighteen years in the U.S.A., I have been an active member of the Ladies' section at Chapel Golf Club, and what fun I have had First, as an ordinary playing member, quite soon a committee member and later as a member of the Ladies Bronze Team, the ladies at Chapel welcomed and encouraged me. Now those Ladies have bestowed on me their greatest honour, that of being Lady Captain for 2012, and in this capacity and continuing in their spirit, I would like to extend a warm welcome to all our lady members and visitors.
When I first joined and only put in an appearance for the Wednesday competitions, an established member told me, "Pauline, we don't only play on Wednesdays you know." And boy was she right. There is lots more going on.There are Majors and Medals on Sundays,Silver, Bronze and Friendly team matches, a thriving nine hole group, and mixed competitions organized by the ladies throughout the season. Fun competitions at the beginning and end of each season are an integral part of the year, with Wednesday Winter Rollups and weekend competitions available for those who like to play year round.
To our new lady members, I look forward to meeting and playing with you and encourage you to get as involved as you would like to be. Don't hesitate to call me or any member of the committee if we can help with any queries and do keep your eye on the notice boards in the locker room, particularly the monthly calendar of events for a quick summary of what is coming up. Barbara Willocks is currently our committee contact for new members and she will always welcome your call.
I'm anticipating a challenging, busy and exciting year ahead and looking forward to sharing it all with our excellent vice-captain, Pam Wilson and our invaluable hard working committee, all of whom give so willingly of their time and expertise to ensure the smooth running of our section.Thank you so much ladies. The Joint Captains' Charity for 2012 will be The British Heart Foundation, so as we go into the Olympic year let's go for gold at Chapel golf Club.
