By far the biggest sub-section of the golf club the Gents enjoy a mixture of opportunities to play golf in a friendly and welcoming atmosphere.
Formal Competitions are run throughout the summer season (usually April until October) and are predominantly played on Sundays. These include a mixture of Medal and Stableford individual comps alongside a number of team and pairs events. In addition we hold midweek competitions each Wednesday through the height of the summer, making the most of the lighter evenings. Tee times are reserved for all formal club competitions and are booked in advance – either online, or by using the terminals in the clubhouse.
Club “Knock-out” match play competitions are open to all Gents and are contested in Singles, Fourball, and Foursomes formats.
Winter League is played each Sunday morning from November until the start of the next summer season, with weekly prizes as well as an aggregate winner and runner up in each division. This is an informal “roll up” event (with no pre booking of tee times) and players are encouraged to pair up with different partners each week. There are also informal weekly competitions run every Saturday morning throughout the winter season.
“Chompers” is an informal weekly stableford competition played every Tuesday throughout the year. Played from the Yellow Tees, Chompers is open to all members and offers weekly prizes as well as half yearly “finals” usually accompanied by a dinner and prize presentation. As with Winter League, there is no need to book in advance for Chompers – just turn up, find yourself a partner, and off you go!
There are also numerous regular “roll up” opportunities for those who just want to play social golf, including Saturday mornings around 8 or 11, depending on your preference.
Each year the Gents enter a number of inter club competitions, offering members the opportunity to represent the club playing against other local golf clubs, or in some cases within a regional or national “knock out” framework.
Whatever your ability and whatever your golfing aspirations, be it competitive or social golf, Chapel Golf Club has everything you need to enjoy your golf within a beautiful setting and a warm and welcoming environment.
Message from Mr Captain – Derek Hallam
I would like to wish all members and visitors to the Chapel-en-le-Frith Golf Club website a very warm welcome; I am certain you will find all the information you require, so please take your time and have a good look round.
I am proud and honoured to be Captain of the Men’s section of the Club for 2017 and here at Chapel GC we are fortunate to play on a very highly regarded and challenging course that provides a terrific test of golf for any standard of player.
This gem of a parkland course, which is in stunning condition, nestles in a valley between Chapel en le Frith and Whaley Bridge, surrounded by the rolling hills of the lower Peaks providing stunning views of the countryside around it.
It is 6134 yards long off the Yellow Tees, the all year round greens are maintained to achieve 9.5 on the STIMP meter with each green having its own challenges. It has practice areas for both the short and long game.
We have competitive Men’s, seniors, Ladies, Mixed & Junior sections covering all of the handicap ranges and we play in the D + C League and the MDGA (Manchester & District Golf Alliance) in numerous competitions throughout the year.
Players of all abilities and age are welcome and we are especially proud of our Academy where young would be players are taught all aspects of the game.
With a fully equipped golf shop and our experienced PGA Professional – Nigel Parkinson on hand to give advice on choosing the right equipment and lessons out on the course you will never want for lack of understanding of the game or of the right equipment to suit you.
The modern clubhouse with its friendly atmosphere offers first class facilities for both the tired golfer just in from his round to social gatherings of up to 100 people. Our Catering Manager Simon Hibbert and his ever friendly staff are on hand to ensure a warm welcome and pleasant end to your round or if you just want to pop in for some refreshments in the middle of a busy day.
New members of any age and golfing ability are warmly welcomed and with my Vice-Captain, Ted Little, we hope you will visit us and enjoy our course and hospitality.
