Chapel Teams Win in The Derbyshire Inter Club Foursomes
94 of years of hurt……no longer for Chapel-en-le-Frith Golf Club as they managed to triumph in 2 out of 3 Finals
The Scratch team from the club won the Devonshire Cup at the Derbyshire Inter Club Foursomes Competition, played at Erewash Valley Golf Club, resulting in a final hole thriller against Breadsall Priory.
The competition has been running since 1921, so after 94 years Chapel have AT LAST produced a team who managed to claim victory in sensational style and won the cup with a combined team score that resulted in a one hole win.
Captain of the club, Bill Gill said “I felt like Seve Ballesteros when he was Ryder Cup Captain, as I hired a buggy for the day so I could follow all three teams and support them in their endeavours. It had been 45 years since a single club has reached the finals in all three competitions. I am extremely proud of all the players including those who took part in previous rounds to those who played on the day”
Another victory was achieved by Chapel’s Division Two Team in the Crompton Cup playing against Chevin Golf Club . After the 15th hole the team could not be caught leaving the opposing team no option but to concede resulting in Chapel becoming champions.
Unfortunately there was no hat trick on this occasion as Chapel’s Intermediate team although doing their level best to win came up against Burton on Trent Golf Club who were simply unbeatable on the day and won the Cartwright Cup.
Chapel-en-le-Frith Golf Club would like to acknowledge Horderns Motor House for sponsoring the Teams Golf Shirts.
